COVID-19: Economic Relief Measures Announced to Date

  • a $200 million loan to the Alberta Orphan Wells Association (OWA) for cleaning up orphan oil and gas wells and well sites across Alberta.

  • Applications for the B.C. Dormant Sites Reclamation Program will be accepted beginning May 25.

    • Greenhouse gas emissions in the oil and gas sector: The Government of Canada will provide funding to Natural Resources Canada over two years for up to $750 million. The funds are aimed to help create a new repayable loan program to work with conventional and offshore oil and gas companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emission.     • Medical supplies: The Government of Canada announced on May 6, 2020, that it is waiving tariffs on certain medical goods to reduce the costs of imported personal protective equipment for Canadian businesses.     • Innovation : The Government of Canada announced on July 14 that it will dedicate over $11 million for three innovative firms, Lytica Incs., Solace Corp, You.i TV, to expand capabilities, benefit new markets and create over 140 jobs.     • Mining: The Honourable Daniel Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, made an Order extending certain time limits established by Nunavut Mining Regulations. The Order extends time limits to pay rent for mineral leases under the regulations that become due between March 13, 2020 and October 29, 2020 inclusively by up to six months, and not extending beyond October 30, 2020.
